My Story.

As a passionate Martial Arts coach, I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to the art of combat and self-discipline. My journey began in the mid-80s when my father took me to a local club, introducing me to the captivating world of Karate. I was an avid reader of Black Belt Magazine, captivated by the legendary exploits of icons like Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, which ignited in me a lifelong quest for Martial Arts exploration and personal growth.

During my high school years, the allure of Martial Arts continued to beckon, leading me to delve into the realm of Thai Boxing under the guidance of the esteemed Sandy Holt. My training took root at a small satellite club at Body Rock Gym in Chorley, gradually evolving into a 15-year immersion that saw me honing my skills and spirit within gyms at Blackburn and Clitheroe. The vibrant inter-club circuit provided a stage for me to test my mettle and forge lasting connections with fellow practitioners.

While Thai Boxing remained a core facet of my Martial Arts odyssey, my thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. This drive led me to constantly study the teachings of Bruce Lee and other Martial Arts disciplines, enriching my understanding and expertise.

A pivotal juncture arose in my journey when I took a hiatus in my early twenties to embrace the responsibilities of starting a family. However, the passion for Martial Arts merely lay dormant, poised to be rekindled in the most meaningful way. I found myself yearning to introduce my son, Kai, to the world of Thai Boxing, yet the quest for a gym aligned with my Martial Arts values proved elusive.

Undeterred by challenges, I embarked on a determined search and, in my quest, discovered the captivating art of Ju Jitsu. A chance encounter with Sensei Silvio would prove to be a turning point, igniting a profound connection to this intricate and transformative Martial Arts style. The allure of Ju Jitsu's unique philosophy and techniques resonated deeply with me, igniting a newfound passion that propelled me back onto the mats with fervour.

Over the course of the next five years, my commitment and dedication to Ju Jitsu flourished. A dynamic shift occurred when I decided to leave behind a successful career in Nuclear Engineering spanning more than two decades. This pivotal decision allowed me to fully embrace my true calling, leading me to become an integral part of the Shinpo Martial Arts family.

Today, I stand as a beacon of inspiration, weaving together a tapestry of experience that spans decades and crosses multiple disciplines. As an instructor at Shinpo Martial Arts, I channel my expertise and unwavering enthusiasm to guide and nurture the next generation of practitioners. My journey embodies the essence of Martial Arts—discipline, resilience and an unyielding pursuit of self-improvement, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all who have the privilege to train under my guidance.
